The Secular Music of Renaissance Italy
Domenico Mazzocchi's publication of 1638 is one of the last collections to belong to an unbroken tradition of madrigal composition. From this point, the polyphonic madrigal was largely unsuccessful in fending off competition from the more lavish entertainments.
In the last of 15 programmes, ANTHONY ROOLEY directs the CONSORT OF MUSICKE in a selection of these late madrigals. Record Series producer GRAHAM DIXON
