Bach at Cothen
When Bach arrived at the Cothen court in 1717 he found himself in the employment of a discerning musical enthusiast. Prince
Leopold had studied music and could play the violin, viola da gamba and harpsichord. The well-trained court orchestra which he had recently formed contained several eminent players and Bach set to work with enthusiasm composing music for them.
