He became the Lord Chief
Justice in April, when the British legal system was under fire over a series of successful appeals against IRA terrorist convictions. His main task is ' seen as restoring confidence in Britishjustice, to make the judiciary "more accessible and user-friendly" and to improve co-operation within the criminal justice system.
