In last week's ' Beaux and Belle*' Sir Compton Mackenzie said good-bye to the Old Gaiety Theatre. This week brings a ' hello ' to the new Gaiety, wh.ch opened with The Orchid in October 1903. We shall hear songs that George Grossmith and Gertie Millar sang.
Sir Compton's guest,
Miss Ellaline Terriss * (Lady Hicks), recalls some of the shows in which she and Seymour Hicks appeared; among these are The Catch of the Season, The Beauty of Bath, and Bluebell in Fairyland.
French light imwic was becoming increasingly popular in rhe early years of the century, and Véronique, which had already been brought over from France in the original language, was given here in English in 1904. Tonight's ballroom recollections include one of the French waltzes which were so popular in those days.
