The first gold medal of the evening will be decided in the women's team gymnastics competition, dominated in the past by the former Soviet Union.

Swimming
Tonight's finals include the men's 400m freestyle, where Britain's Paul Palmer, the 1993 world short-course bronze medallist, will be in contention for his first Olympic medal.
Commonwealth champion Martin Harris is the main British hope in the men's 100m backstroke. Plus, finals in the women's 200m breaststroke, the women's 100m butterfly and the men's 4 400m freestyle.

Hockey
Britain's women's hockey team continue their campaign to improve on their bronze medal from Barcelona, with hosts the United States as their latest opponents.
