Pacific Odyssey

on BBC Radio 4 FM

After 29 years behind the Iron Curtain, Jimmy Cornell , a Romanian, came to England. But he found that a job and a mortgage became another sort of barrier to the freedom that he sought. So he gave up his job, built a yacht and, with his wife and two children, sailed round the world. They were so enchanted by the Pacific though, that they spent three years sailing from island to island, learning about the people, their customs and their music. He recounts some of his experiences and shares the music he recorded with June Knox-Mawer. Producer SUSAN snailum
