And Now, Apollo
The 12th time men have lifted off from Cape Kennedy aboard an Apollo spacecraft, but the first Apollo en route to an international space connection.
It's also the first time ever that television cameras will show the scene inside the Apollo Command Module during lift-off. The spacecraft commander is GENERAL TOM STAFFORD , who has logged 290 hours in his space career. With him as he sets off to join the cosmonauts waiting in orbit are 51-year-old D. K. 'DEKE' SLAYTON , who has waited 16 years for his first flight, and VANCE BRAND, also a first-timer.
