Shop theft has been called the most dynamic growth area in British crime. During the Christmas rush, shop thefts may well reach an all-time peak; every day there's almost the equivalent of the Great Train Robbery in our high streets, and the costs - which are passed on to us - average out at two pence in every pound that we spend at the cash desk.
