The Heather Sextet
Directed by Lena Blackman
This week the Scottish Dance Music is being provided by the Heather Sextet , which is almost entirely a feminine ensemble ; the only man in it is the player of the bass. The Sextet is in its eighth year, though to be quite accurate, it began as a quartet and grew up later. Among its members are to be found some of Glasgow's finest women musicians who united at a period when the slump in the musical profession was making the earning of a livelihood a matter of difficulty. Listeners may recall that the Heather Sextet was playing when they tuned in to the Scottish Regional Station test transmissions.
