The work done in the factories, workshops, and mines of Britain is vital to the nation's economy, yet all too often the workers and their families have to live in overcrowded slum conditions, under a pall of smoke, with hardly any green grass or open spaces within reach. In today's broadcast you can hear how these conditions arose, and something of what is slowly being done towards putting things right so that in future we may be able to take pride in our great industrial cities.
