Life with an Idiot

Alfred Schnittke's opera to a text by Victor Yerofeyev, based on his own novella, in its British premiere production by English National Opera. This allegorical black comedy tells how a man, called simply "I", and his wife have an idiot lodger imposed upon them as punishment for some unspecified crime. The idiot creates mayhem, having sex with both the man and the woman, and finally leaves "I" insane and the wife murdered. Presented by Chris de Souza. Sung in English.
