Christopher Hope , winner of the 1984 Whitbread prize for his novel Kruger's Alp, is also the author of a long narrative poem, Englishmen, which recounts the inseparable facts and fictions of South African life and history. In conversation with Richard Mayne , he talks about his work and his relationship to his native country.
