A Recital relayed from Carlisle
Cathedral
Dr. F. W. WADELY, Organist
THE CATHEDRAL CHOIR
IN HIS EARLY YEARS Elgar held the post of organist, succeeding his father, at
St. George's Church, Worcester. He had not until recently, however, written anything of importance for the organ beyond one Sonata. This, the first, was composed, as many of Elgar's works have been, for an occasion-the visit of some American musicians to Worcester Cathedral in July, 1898. The second is, naturally, a work of much greater maturity. Some of its .material has been drawn from another recent work, 'The Severn Suite '. The work is characteristic of Elgar at his most vivacious, and, being not too technically difficult to organists of average accomplishment, is a welcome addition to the repertory of British recital music.
