Night Waves

on BBC Radio 3

Laura Cumming discusses the first-ever showing outside Russia of works drawn from the Museum of Artistic Culture. Founded in 1919, the museum was inspired by leading figures of the Russian avant-garde, including Kazimir Malevich , and aimed to explore objectively the development of art and its creative processes. As New Art for a New Era goes on display at the Barbican in London, Laura Cumming explores the story of the museum and its influence. Plus first-night news from Stratford, where Nigerian-born writer Biyi Bandele has adapted Aphra Behn 's extraordinary Restoration novel of African slavery for the stage. Night Waves reports from the world premiere of Oroonoko. Producer Anthony Denselow
