ANNE MONTGOMERY
(mezzo-soprano)
This is a suite of dance tunes based on those popular in the time of Baron Holberg who lived in the days of Bach and Handel. Holberg was the great Scandinavian poet and dramatist who passed his life in Denmark. He is considered the founder of Danish literature, the greatest of Danish authors, and, excepting for Voltaire, the first writer in Europe of his generation. Incidentally, this suite is one of the backbones of the string orchestral repertory, and one of the best known even of Grieg's concert works.
