LIKE the ballad, the old heroic lay, once sung
J by minstrels to the accompaniment of their harps, has had a literary revival within the last century or so. In this talk Mr. Stobart and Miss Somerville will discuss the old lays-the most famous of which is the great Chanson de Roland-and their modern imitations by Scott, Byron, Longfellow and Macaulay.
