Leader, J. Mouland Begbie
Conductor, Ian Whyte
Scored for one flute, one oboe, two clarinets, one trumpet, two horns, one bassoon, and strings, Wagner's ' Siegfried Idyll ' is one of the most perfectly constructed pieces of symphonic music ever written ', each bar being the inevitable outcome of its predecessor. The themes upon which this work is based are all taken from the love scene in the last act of Siegfried, with the exception of an old German lullaby which is introduced at various points in the work. The themes are ' Song of Peace ', ' Guardian of the World', ', ' Love's Determination', and A Flood of Splendour'.
