THE AFRICAN INNOCENCE

on Third Programme

First of two talks on political attitudes in independent Africa
† by ALI A. MAZRUI
Lecturer in Political Science, Makerere University College. Uganda
' Among many transformations which the peoples of Africa are undergoing is a distinct revolution in self-evaluation.' The speaker believes that the new African self-image is best characterised by ' innocence,' in certain senses which show it to be both a reaction and a challenge to the former colonial powers.
