Massenet's operatic version of Goethe's tragic tale of the hopeless love of the young Werther for the married Charlotte. In this performance, Thomas Hampson takes on the mantle of the great Italian baritone Mattia Battistini, for whom Massenet made a baritone arrangement of the tenor title role. Sung in French.
