1942: Barney Doyle , commander of the US submarine Greyfish in the Pacific, is hunting the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinaru, flagship of the Pearl Harbor attack. When he corners it in Tokyo Bay, the carrier is screened by a freighter - which he knows to be carrying his own wife and children, prisoners of the Japanese.
