Smetana: The Last Years
Smetana died in 1884 at the age of 60. For the last ten years or so of his life he was deaf, but he continued to compose, producing some of his best works. It is from the music of these final years that this week's programmes are drawn, including Ma vlast, the two string quartets and excerpts from several operas. Vysehrad (Ma vlast)
