1/11. Retro rocker Suzi Quatro returns with more American rock 'n' roll gems of the 50s and early 60s. This series includes a new feature showcasing two songs by a prominent rock 'n' roll songwriter, starting with Sharon Sheely (Poor Little Fool and Cherished Memories). Also, Suzi celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of Gene Vincent's hugely influential Be-Bop-a-Lu/a. And Dion provides a rock 'n' roll memory.
Rockin' with Suzi Q
9.00pm R2 There's something strangely comforting in tuning in to a show where listeners ask, without any sense of shame or irony, to hear unknown songs sung by God knows who because they might have been drunk when they first heard them back in the 50s. All credit to US rock 'n' roll expert Suzi Quatro: she knows exactly the track they are referring to, for Suzi Q's a veritable cornucopia of rockin' knowledge, which she liberally enhances with personal anecdotes and sexy cackles. Well-lubricated older listeners are in for a raunchy treat. (Jane Anderson)
