Robin Milford was born at Epsom in 1903 and studied music at Rugby and at the Royal College of Music. He is now engaged in teaching music at a school. Among his major works there is an oratorio, A Prophet in the Land, which was first performed in 1931 at the Three Choirs Festival and has since been heard in London. His instrumental works include a string quartet, a suite for oboe, and ' The Darkling Thrush ' for solo violin and orchestra. The Violin Concerto to be heard this evening is his latest and one of his most interesting works.
