Nigel Olifaunt , Lord Glenvarloch, went to London in 1620 to reclaim a large sum of money due to his family by King James VI. Despite the friendship of George Heriot and the rather more affectionate assistance of Margaret Ramsay , the young Scot's lack of knowledge of court etiquette got him into difficulty after difficulty. In a final bid to get an audience with the King, he accosted the monarch in the Royal Park. Terrified out of his wits, the timid King Jamie shouted for assistance to the Duke of Buckingham, Nigel's sworn enemy.
