Night Waves

on BBC Radio 3

Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso changed the course of painting when they invented cubism in the early years of the 20th century. From January to April, London's Royal
Academy is holding an exhibition of 50 works from the last 20 years of Braque's life. Richard Coles assesses the poetic quality of late Braque. Plus a review of the long-awaited new novel from Caryl Philips , The Nature of Blood, which cuts between the death camps of the Holocaust, a 15th-century trial of Jews near Venice, and an African general hired in the 16th century to lead a Venetian army.
