Sunday Feature:Cherry Women, Cherry Men

on BBC Radio 3

Every year the Sakura Zensen or Cherry-Blossom Front sweeps at about 8 mph through Japan.
Through interviews with the keepers of the trees, recordings of hanami (when people gather to drink and sing under the flowering boughs), and with stories, poems and sounds, writer and translator Stephen Henry Gill and composer Malte Jaspersen evoke the national love affair of the Japanese with cherry blossom.
