on Regional Programme Midland

View in Radio Times

Since the War, Birmingham has experienced something in the nature of an industrial re-birth, many historic manufacturing establishments having been greatly extended and equipped with the latest plant for efficient production on the most modern lines. It has been called ' the workshop of the world,' and its manufactures, covering more than a thousand trades, are now on a vaster scale than ever. Tonight listeners will visit one of the largest plants in the city where electrical equipment for motor-cars, motor-cycles, and cycles is turned out in prodigious quantities. Noises incidental to the production and testing will be heard during the talk, which will be given by Mr. A. PADDON SMITH. from the works in West Birmingham (tho division represented in Parliament for so many years by Joseph Chamberlain )
