Autumn 1972 marked the 80th anniversary of the death of Alfred Lord Tennyson , who achieved in a long life a popularity never approached by a British poet before or since.
Professor Christopher Ricks , author of the recent collected edition of Tennyson's works, and Hallam Tennyson , the poet's great-grandson, explore the changes in Tennyson's reputation in recent years.
