Clowns of the Air. The puffin is one of the world's most immediately lovable birds. Its Chaplinesque walk and teardrop eyes seem to give it the comical but tragic qualities of a clown. Using strikingly ingenious photography, this programme follows puffins from Scotland to Iceland, observing the well ordered life of their crowded breeding colonies. The camera goes underground into their burrows, and under the sea too. There, the comical puffin is dramatically transformed into an efficient marine hunter, using its wings to "fly" underwater after fish.
