Two Strings to a Bow
Schumann and Faure. In the second of eight programmes,
Gordon Stewart looks at a pair of composers who, for all their distinctive national qualities, were alike in many ways. The programme includes two great pieces of chamber music with piano: Faure's Piano Quartet No 1 in C minor performed by the Pro Arte Quartet, and Schumann's Piano Quintet in E flat with Tamas Vasary and the Guarneri Quartet. Ann Murray sings songs by Schumann, Margaret Field performs songs by Faure, and Vlado Perlemuter plays Faure's Theme and Variations.
