The Singing Sailor: 4: In the Trades

on Forces Programme

View in Radio Times

Stanley Slade, who has been at sea all his life and knows blue water, square-rigged ships, their ways and their men, talks about the forebitters they sang in the Trades, when the watch could take their ease on deck and sing for their own pleasure. Henry Cummings and the BBC Men's Chorus, conducted by Trevor Harvey, sing the songs, and Reg Manus accompanies them on his accordion.
