Elgar and the Gramophone

In 1930, the Gramophone company began to make plans to re-record many of Elgar's short popular orchestral works, among them the Three
Characteristic Pieces.
The second of these, the Serenade Mauresque , was never published Malcolm Ruthven explains why. He also introduces the Nursery Suite, inspired by youthful sketches which Elgar discovered in an old trunk.
