FOR more than half a century the songs of Fred Weatherly have been household words. They are known wherever the English language is spoken. His recent book of recollections, ' Piano and Gown,' deals with his long and busy life as a song-writer and barrister, and Mr. Justice McCardie has written an eloquent preface describing it as a happy book by a happy man who has never grown old.' In the following lecture Mr. Weatherly tells how some of his songs came to be written, interspercing the vocal illustrations with chat and recitations.
