3: The Trial of Mary Blandy
Murder: Oxford, 1752
Mary Blandy was tried on a charge of poisoning her father. Her defence was that she had given him a ' love philtre' in order to persuade him to look more kindly upon Captain the Hon. William Cranstoun, who wished to marry her but was not acceptable to Mr. Blandy.
