Not Just Dots on a Washing Line

on BBC Radio 4 FM

When Todmorden piano teacher Sylvia Forbes introduces a new piece of music to a young pupil she sings, dances, tells stories, and, as a 12-year-old pupil says, ' She'll kind of paint a picture with it, so it's not just notes like dots on a washing line, because when you come out you have a picture in front of you. and you know that's the way the music's going to be.' SYLVIA FORBES ' gift for inspiring children with a love of music is rare. Kate Fenton visits Todmorden and eavesdrops on one or two lessons. Producer KATE FENTON (First broadcast on Radio Wales)
