The Olympiad

on BBC One London

The Australians
Australia, with a population little more than that of Greater London, has produced a galaxy of athletic talent. It is one of the few nations which have competed in every Olympic Games since 1896, but most of its gold medals have been won in the post-war years. This programme, the second of the series, tells the story of super-champions, such as HERB ELLIOTT, unbeaten at 1500 metres; swimmer DAWN FRASER , who won gold at three Olympics; and the multi-medal-winning sprinters MARJORIE JACKSON and BETTY CUTHBERT. In addition the programme examines the enigma of RON CLARKE , a man who set up 21 world records, but who never won a gold.
