' The Discovery of America'
ERIC LINKLATER
Many people suppose that America was first discovered by Columbus, but this is not the case. Five hundred years earlier the Vikings had found their way there. Thorleif, the son of Eric the Red (who discovered Greenland) was the first European to set foot on the new continent. Other early explorers include the famous Thorfinn Karl Sefni , a fine statue of whom may be seen in Philadelphia. This statue is the work of Einar Jonsson , a modern Icelandic sculptor.
