He started in the kitchens of a West-End hotel at fifteen shillings a week, progressed from commis waiter to head waiter in this country, and then worked abroad in Germany and Switzerland. He returned to become manager of several big seaside hotels, and now keeps a small hotel in Cornwall with his Swiss wife and children
