Ernst von Dohnanyi , the Hungarian composer and pianist, knows England very well. He came to London first in 1898, and has been here often since. His music is clear cut, witty, modern, and delightful-four qualities not too often found travelling together in the same compartment. These numbers are from a ballet which was first staged at Dresden twenty-two years ago. It was followed by an opera, but of late years Dohnanyi's recital tours abroad and his academic duties at home have apparently made a breach in the time left for him to compose.
