SCIENCE SURVEY

on Network Three

Research on Chimeras by Donald Michie D.Phil. , of the Department of Surgical Science in the University of Edinburgh
The chimera was a fabulous monster-part lion, part goat, part serpent. Scientists haven't created anything quite so bizarre, but the surgical use of ' spare parts ' taken from another individual is a move in that direction. Dr. Michie explains how chimeras are being used to study a number of biological and medical problems.
