Composer of the Week: Corelli

on BBC Radio 3

Corelli is credited with being the first violin virtuoso. Yet he appears not to have been interested in dazzling display, preferring instead to concentrate on the beauty of the sound. Giuseppe Tartini - no mean player himself- refused to teach his own students anything until they had studied Corelli's violin sonatas.
