The Secret War

on BBC One London

A series of six programmes 5: If ...
Much of the work of the scientists during the Second World War was never used operationally; but the armed forces required always to be able to counter any new device that the enemy might use.
This programme shows some of the fantastic weapons that were devised by both sides during World War II: bouncing bombs, rocket-powered guided missiles and 40-ton gliders. Many of these ingenious devices were never to be used in anger - and others, the jet-fighter for example, were just too late.
