A Birmingham Dialect Sketch by GRAHAM SQUIERS
Presented by GRAHAM SQUIERS and EDITH JAMES
Aerbut Paerks and his wife Gaertie, and their family, were Birmingham characters created by Graham Squiers , who is a chartered accountant by profession, ran an amateur concert party, and has had about 300 songs and sketches published. ' Aerbut ' first became known nearly twenty-five years ago. It was left to the BBC to introduce an actual ' Gaertie ' in Edith James ; in earlier radio shows there was also Young Aerbut played by Albert Daniels , Gaertie's Aunt Maria, played by Mabel France , and Aerbut's Old Man played by Edgar Lane.
Graham Squiers wrote half-a-dozen radio sketches for Charles Brewer when the latter was producer at Birmingham.
Edith James, it is interesting to recall, is one of ten artists who broadcast in the winter of 1922-3 and are still on the books of the Birmingham station.
