The Chelmsford Morris men in Pleshey - a sedan chair race round the village of Kingsclere - London's biggest street party in Hounslow - red, white and blue bunting, front doors, and chips - the Bond Street party held in Berkeley Square, complete with taped nightingale: all ways of celebrating the Queen's Silver Jubilee by her subjects.
To the Queen herself, the summer of 77 must have seemed one long round of handshakes, civic functions and cheering crowds; of innumerable bouquets and countless arrivals and departures.
This programme looks at the small moments and unrehearsed incidents of the royal tour, and looks, too, at what Her Majesty didn't see: at some of the parties, celebrations and happenings that people all over the British Isles devised as their way of celebrating the Silver Jubilee.
