Double Portraits
With Peggy Reynolds.
4: Sickert and Beecham
Walter Sickert painted his portrait of Thomas Beecham not from life but from a photograph. It is an impressionistic picture - the eyes glitter, the hands seem to move, and the viewer can easily imagine what it might be like to be a member of Beecham's audience. Music includes:
Wagner Prelude, Act 1: The
Mastersingers of Nuremberg London Philharmonic/Thomas
Beecham Mozart Symphony No 36 in C (Linz) (2nd mvt) Royal Philharmonic, conductor Thomas Beecham
Sibelius Violin Concerto (3rd mvt)
Jascha Heifetz , London Philharmonic, conductor Thomas Beecham
Delius Brigg Fair Royal Philharmonic, conductor Thomas Beecham
