Huck was about to leave the Granger-fords for ever when he heard that Sophia had eloped with Harney Shep herdson. This caused a battle between the feuding families. Huck went to help Buck, but Buck signalled and then fired a shot to drive him away. Huck got away but knew that while covering him Buck had been killed. Huck and Jim start their journey down river again.
