This is the story of boxer Carl Frampton, ‘The Jackal’, at a career-defining moment - a fight at his beloved Windsor Park. As a working-class Protestant from Belfast who has harboured a lifelong dream of walking out at the venue in front of an adoring crowd, this is his Mecca, his one-in-a-lifetime spiritual homecoming. With unique, intimate access to Carl’s life both inside and away from the ring in the build-up to the fight, ‘Frampton: Return of the Jackal’ will take the viewer on a privileged journey, fashioning a bold and memorable portrait of a fighter at his peak, a father and family man, making sense of his place in history and his status as a 5-foot, 5-inch titan of a community searching for its own identity and purpose in an ever-changing world. Indeed, the film is about far more than just boxing. Rather the sport, and in particular Carl’s character, provide the perfect prism to view much broader issues, such as Protestant identity, tribalism, class, tradition and history, in a global 21st century Northern Ireland.
