Szymanowski's Stabat Mater dates from 1925-26 and was first performed in this country at the Three Choin Festival at Worcester in 1935. It is set for soprano, contralto, and baritone soloists, mixed chorus, and symphony orchestra without trombones, and is divided into six sections.
