Edi Stark's theme for this edition of Winter Weekend is nature.

Jim Crumley is a journalist, poet and nature writer. He has selected Gavin Maxwell's Ring of Bright Water, a book he credits with changing the course of his life. And today's archive selection is from a tribute to Maxwell, featuring memories from people who knew him in Glenelg.

Songwriter Karine Polwart draws a lot of her own inspiration from nature, most recently in her theatre show Wind Resistance, which takes as its starting point the migration of thousands of pink-footed geese, who overwinter on Fala Flow near her home in Midlothian. She takes Edi for a walk on the moor, and back in studio, recommends listening to fellow singer Inge Thomson's album Da Fishing Hands, about the changing marine environment around Fair Isle.

Alan Rowan writes under the moniker of the Munro Moonwalker. He has climbed all of Scotland's highest mountains three times - in the dark. In 2018, he plans to visit a hill for every full moon. His choice is Nan Shepherd's classic of landscape literature The Living Mountain. Show less
