The Old Country: 7: Lochaber

on Forces Programme

View in Radio Times

A glimpse of life today in the country around Ben Nevis - from Ballachulish to Fort William and round the shores of the Lochs.
Devised by and recorded under the direction of Alan Melville
All round Ben Nevis lies Lochaber, land of Clan Cameron, whose chief, Sir Donald Cameron of Lochiel, will be heard in this programme, speaking about the Cameron Highlanders and their glorious traditions.
The voices of other Lochaber folk will also be heard - of Provost Simon MacDonald of Fort William, who has made close contact between that town and Fort William, Ontario; and of Euan MacKenzie of Kinlochleven whose record for a run up Ben Nevis stood from 1903 until it was broken last year. We shall hear the views of the crofter, the market gardener, and the roadman, the playing of the Fort William Pipe Band, and the singing of the Fort William Junior Gaelic Choir.
